Inside the G7 Summit Lodge: A Luxury Stay at Carbis Bay Hotel, Cornwall

Perched along Cornwall's breathtaking coastline, we recently experienced an extraordinary three-day stay at one of Carbis Bay Hotel's prestigious beach lodges - specifically Lodge 4, which previously hosted the Japanese delegation during the G7 Summit. As we share our experience at this five-star coastal retreat, we'll take you through every luxurious detail of this three-story haven.

A Warm Welcome at the Top

Arriving at the lodge, you're immediately struck by the thoughtful design that makes the most of its prime location. The top floor serves as your private sanctuary, complete with a hot tub offering panoramic views across Carbis Bay. The outdoor seating area provides the perfect spot for morning coffee or evening drinks, while practical touches like stored umbrellas show the careful consideration given to the British weather. A stunning spiral staircase, featuring elegant rope detailing, connects all three floors and sets the tone for the exceptional craftsmanship throughout.

Sleep in Style

The middle floor houses three individually designed bedrooms, each offering its own en-suite bathroom and unique charm. The first bedroom offers versatility with its twin-to-double bed configuration, making it perfect for various guest arrangements. Wall-mounted TVs and generous storage spaces ensure both comfort and convenience.

The standout family room boasts a sumptuous king-size bed and perhaps the lodge's best views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Its luxury bathroom, complete with a full-size bathtub, proved perfect for family bath times. The third bedroom, while slightly smaller with its double bed, doesn't compromise on quality and maintains the same high standards found throughout the property.

Living in Luxury

The ground floor is where the lodge truly comes to life as a social space. The open-plan living area feels both grand and welcoming, with its large smart TV and decorative fireplace creating a cosy atmosphere despite the generous proportions. The kitchen, while not designed for elaborate cooking, provides everything needed for a luxury stay - from the latest coffee machines to ample storage for drinks and snacks. The eight-seater dining table became our favourite gathering spot, perfect for enjoying the delivered breakfast baskets while planning each day's adventures.

The Complete Package

What sets Carbis Bay apart isn't just the accommodation - it's the complete experience. Each morning begins with the delivery of charming breakfast baskets filled with fresh pastries and local delicacies. Evening canapés arrive like clockwork (though we missed some due to our early family dinner times), and the welcome champagne sets the tone for a special stay. The direct beach access, included spa facilities, and attentive housekeeping service ensure every need is catered for.

A Five-Star Feast

The culinary experience at Carbis Bay Hotel perfectly matches the luxury of its accommodation, with six distinct dining venues each offering their own unique atmosphere and menu. During our three-day stay, we were consistently impressed by the high standard and variety across Walter's on The Beach, The Beach Club Restaurant, The Orangery Restaurant, The Deli & Deli Restaurant, Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling, and The Hungry Gannet.

Each morning began with a delightful breakfast delivered in charming wicker baskets to our lodge, filled with fresh pastries and accompanied by hot options like bacon and sausage baguettes. The evening dining experience was elevated further with the thoughtful touch of pre-dinner canapés being delivered to our lodge. What particularly stood out was the kitchen's willingness to accommodate our three-year-old nephew's particular tastes, adapting menu items to ensure even the youngest guests were well catered for.

While the restaurants maintain five-star standards, they manage to do so without feeling stuffy or pretentious, creating an environment where families can enjoy exceptional cuisine in comfort. The variety across the different restaurants means you could easily enjoy a different dining experience each evening of your stay, from casual beachside dining at The Beach Club Restaurant to refined cuisine at Ugly Butterfly by Adam Handling. Though as one guest mentioned, you might want to return to simpler fare after a few days of such indulgent dining!

Value and Smart Booking

While the regular rate of £3,000 per night reflects the lodge's five-star status and unique history, we secured an excellent deal through careful timing. Taking advantage of a "book 2 nights, get 1 free" offer, we paid £2,500 total for three nights - approximately £833 per night for four adults and one child, including breakfast. While still a luxury price point, the value becomes apparent when you consider the space, privacy, and premium service level.

Final Thoughts

Our stay at Carbis Bay Hotel's beach lodge 4 was nothing short of exceptional. From the Japanese flag plaque commemorating its G7 Summit history to the daily delivery of fresh breakfast baskets, every detail contributed to an unforgettable experience. Whether you're soaking in the private hot tub while watching the sunset, enjoying a family breakfast on the terrace, or simply relaxing in the spacious living area, this accommodation offers a truly premium coastal retreat that's perfect for special occasions and family gatherings.

The staff's attentiveness, the property's historical significance, and the stunning coastal location combine to create something truly special. While the price point may require careful consideration, for those special occasions when only the best will do, Carbis Bay's beach lodges deliver an experience that creates lasting memories.
