We recently spent two nights at this secluded off-grid shepherd's hut on the Devon-Cornwall border to see whether it really delivers the peaceful escape it promises.

Many glamping sites describe themselves as peaceful, but you'll often still find neighbouring pods, busy communal areas or other guests nearby.
Slow Glamping is different.
There's just one shepherd's hut set within its own private woodland, meaning you'll have the entire site to yourselves throughout your stay. No noisy neighbours. No crowded facilities. Just birdsong, woodland and complete privacy.
For anyone wanting to switch off for a couple of days, it's one of the most secluded glamping experiences we've found in the South West.
Where is Slow Glamping?
Slow Glamping is located on the Devon-Cornwall border, around 15 minutes from the A30, making it an easy stop whether you're travelling into Devon or Cornwall.
Although it's easy to reach, once you arrive it feels wonderfully remote.
After parking in a nearby field, guests transport their luggage using the wheelbarrow provided before crossing a small wooden bridge into their own private woodland.
Within minutes, it genuinely feels like you've left everyday life behind.
The Shepherd's Hut
Inside the cosy shepherd's hut at Slow Glamping, where a comfortable double bed awaits after a day exploring Devon or simply relaxing in the woodland.
The shepherd's hut itself is compact but surprisingly well equipped.
Inside you'll find:
Comfortable double bed
Flushing toilet
Wood-burning stove
Solar-powered electricity (for the essentials)
Towels and robes
Books, board games and playing cards
Tea, coffee and hot chocolate
Power banks for charging devices
Under-bed storage
One thing that really stood out during our stay was the bed. It was incredibly comfortable.
Although the site is completely off-grid, there is enough electricity for charging phones, cameras and other small devices thanks to the solar panels.
Living Off-Grid Without Sacrificing Comfort
If you've never stayed off-grid before, Slow Glamping offers a great introduction.
Despite being surrounded by woodland, you'll still enjoy a flushing toilet, hot shower and well-equipped kitchen.
Water comes from a natural spring, so guests simply need to bring bottled water for drinking and cooking.
It's the perfect balance between getting back to nature while still enjoying a few home comforts.
The Outdoor Kitchen
Rather than squeezing everything inside the shepherd's hut, the kitchen is housed inside a beautifully converted grain silo.
Facilities include:

Cool box with ice packs on arrival.

Pots, pans and utensils
Plates, bowls and mugs
Food storage
Dining table
Everything was clean, organised and thoughtfully laid out, making cooking surprisingly enjoyable.

Relaxing in the Wood-Fired Hot Tub
One of the biggest reasons people search for a shepherd's hut with a hot tub in Devon is exactly this.
Slow Glamping's wood-fired hot tub sits amongst the trees, giving you complete privacy while you relax.
Heating the water takes around two hours using logs from the nearby log store, although during our summer visit we also enjoyed cooling off in the naturally chilled water after a hot day.
With nothing but woodland surrounding you, it feels more like a private spa than a glamping site.
Even the outdoor shower is surrounded by woodland, giving you hot running water while staying immersed in nature at Slow Glamping in Devon.

Another feature we loved was the outdoor shower.
Powered by gas, it provides proper hot running water despite the off-grid location.
Showering outdoors surrounded by woodland is something a little different and certainly adds to the overall experience.
Unwind in the woodland hammock and watch the sun set through the trees – just one of the simple pleasures of staying at Slow Glamping in Devon.
What Is It Like Staying Here?
The biggest difference isn't actually the shepherd's hut.
It's the pace of life.
Instead of constantly checking phones or rushing from one activity to the next, everything naturally slows down.
Making a coffee becomes part of the morning.
Reading a book feels normal again.
Relaxing in the hammock.
Watching squirrels run through the trees.
Enjoying the hot tub.
Watching the sunset over the surrounding countryside.
If you're looking for somewhere to properly disconnect, this is exactly the sort of place that encourages you to do just that.

Festoon lights illuminate the seating area while the sounds of the countryside gradually replace the noise of everyday life.
With almost no light pollution, it's also a wonderful place for stargazing on a clear evening.

Without hesitation, yes.
In fact, we'd probably book three nights next time.
Two nights was enough to unwind, but just as we settled into the slower pace of life, it was time to head home.
